If you use articles, blogs and even guides, then you’ll soon find that you can use keywords that are much more relevant to what your website actually provides. It also gives you the chance to target terms that people are actually searching for.

If you know that your website sells pet supplies, and you want to rank for the term dog collar, then don’t try and cram all of the collar-related keywords you can think of, on your home page. Instead, write natural guides, such as “which dog collar is most suited to a Golden Retriever” or “how to choose the right colour for your big dog”.

This gives you the chance to provide valuable information to your users while guiding them through the sales funnel. You may also find that it gives you the chance to rank well in searches too, so it’s imperative that you utilise this to your advantage.

Google Loves Long Content

Pages that rank highest in Google tend to have the most content. Pages that rank at the top of the SERPs tends to have, on average, 2,400 words. So does this mean that longer content is always better?

Not really, after all, if your article or your blog drones on and on without making a substantial point, your visitors will get tired, and they’ll absolutely click off your site. This can hurt your ranking, so make sure that you are providing information that your users are going to appreciate.

If that’s short-form content, go for it. If it’s long articles with lots of bullets, subheadings, and images, then that’s fine as well. A good mix is the best mix.

Unique Content and New Ranking Opportunities

Finally, there’s actually one thing that SEO and content marketing have in common. They both focus on finding something that hasn’t been done yet, and they try and rank very highly for it. If you are able to combine your keyword research, then you will soon find that you don’t need to focus on creating a content marketing strategy for your SEO.

You can create unique content that people have never seen before, and you can also rank for long-term keywords at the same time. This will give you a very high chance of being able to secure that top spot, and it will make it much easier for your site to stand out from the crowd.

Care about What you Post

Ultimately, if you post articles that are relevant to your site and if you make sure that you are posting content that your users care about, then you’ll naturally target keywords. If you add in some purposely targeted keywords too, you’ll soon find that you have a solid strategy in place. It’s really that simple. Although a lot goes on behind the scenes when it comes to SEO, if you can understand this fundamental basic, everything else will fall into place.
