One of the major mistakes website owners make when they are trying to optimize their website’s performance in search engines is overdo it when it comes to keyword placement. Many people seem to think that the more keywords, the better; but this is actually not the case.
Allow Keywords to Flow Naturally
When writing content for your website, the last thing you want to do is come across as a robot. You are so much more than that and your site deserves better than that. Writing a piece that contains your keyword is fine, but you do not want to cram keywords into every nook and cranny because it’s going to come across as being forced.
When you read your post, it should flow nicely and really capture your interest. If one word stands out from the rest, it really has the potential to decrease the value of your writing. Nothing is worse than having a piece of work tied to your name and website that comes across as being artificial.
What You Should Be Focusing On
Instead of obsessing over keywords, focus mainly on your content. Take the time to make sure your website is appealing to the eye; that it is organized in a way that is easy for customers to navigate. Make sure to have links that are working and that help your viewers get from point A to point B without getting lost along the way. Simple is better.
Once you have great content that makes people want to come back for more, you won’t have to worry about building links, either! This will come naturally as people who enjoy your site share it with their friends, family and so forth.
Where You Should Place Your Keywords
Keywords work best when used within titles or when categorizing your posts. This is going to make your site much easier for your viewers to get around and find what it is they’re looking for, fast. Place at least one keyword on each page to help stay on topic.
If you are going to be using keywords as anchor text to link to various places throughout your site; be sure you are doing so because it is necessary and not because you are trying to increase your page rank. Having a ton of unnecessary links is going to not only frustrate your readers but confuse them as well.
Your Home Page and Domain Name
Both your homepage and your domain name should contain important keywords that help both potential customers as well as search engines to figure out exactly what it is your site has to offer. The last thing you want to do is have people clicking on your site and realizing there is nothing near what they were looking for. When people can find you and know what it is you have to offer them; they are most likely going to come back in the future.
If you are selling products or services on your site, be sure to make that apparent on your home page. Your home page is all about promoting yourself and building yourself up. Show people how much you have to offer them and why they should stick with you over the competition. The easier you are to find; the more money you are going to make in the long run.
