18 Mar World Internet Summit Australia with Paul Barrs Pt1
World Internet Summit Featured Speaker Paul Barrs – Transcript.
Speaker: I guess I’m here to introduce our next speaker, Paul Barrs. Fantastic Paul Barrs. I’ve got a comment to make about Paul. Until a couple of weeks ago, I didn’t actually know who Paul was. I’d seen him on the World Internet Summit website. I’d seen what he can do. I’d certainly heard stories about what he does, but I generally didn’t know him.
Looking at the website, reading what he did and listening to the conference calls, I have to say I was riveted. Who heard Paul on some of the conference calls? Wasn’t he interesting? Absolutely.
And you know the best part about it? He’s an Aussie, and he’s doing it. Because a lot of us here are thinking, “God, we’re Australians. I don’t know about this American Internet marketing stuff.” We’ve learned so much from them already, who would agree? The Americans are just phenomenal. Particularly in the marketing, they’re about 10 years ahead. There’s so much, as Australians, I think we can learn anyway.
Paul, again, I didn’t know much about. But I heard him on the conference call, his radio announcer voice, which comes across brilliantly, crystal clear.
But on top of that, two nights ago I sat down with Paul and he was just open to all of my questions. I sat him down, we got to know each other a little better, and I just learned some of the most ground-breaking stuff. I just picked his brain.
I challenge you to do the same. Corner him. Tackle him in the corridor. Not really. But certainly, if you can, share a quiet moment with him or get a guru session with him or something. Do it, because he certainly knows his stuff. He’s someone doing it. That’s probably the most fantastic thing about it.
But I think take lots of notes, hang on to every word he says, and certainly you’re in for a very fun-packed, interesting, moneymaking session. I hope you all listen very closely. Take notes and go from there. I’d like to introduce… Where is he?
Paul: Over here.
Speaker: There he is. He looks a little different than his photo. The wonderful Paul Barrs.
Paul: Thank you. Thank you very much.
Folks, I tell you, I don’t know how you’ve been feeling this weekend, but if I were sitting in your shoes, after the first night I would have scared. After the next day, I would have been in brain-fry mode. What’s going to happen in the next two days?
Well, it will be interesting to see what’s going to happen. You’ll come out of this entire event, and you’ll be in a position of you’ll be ready to go, you’ll have all the tools that you need, or you’ll be completely crippled by the amount of knowledge that you’ve learned.
There’s a piece here, a piece here, there, there, there, there and everywhere. How do you bring it all together? You hear what these people can do, but how do you make it work for you? Here’s what I do. I’ll give you just a very quick couple-minute snapshot, a reminder. I’m a single father, I have three children. I care for them, look after them myself. How that came about doesn’t matter. But through the last few years, before I began doing this actually earning income, I was living in a two-bedroom box, a government-commissioned housing place on $286 with a disability support pension.
My computer, someone gave to me secondhand, a beat-up old P2, and an Internet connection. They paid for my first month to get online, find out how you can make a living. I was not prepared to get a job. I couldn’t. At that time, I was caring for my sick wife.
So what do you do? Do you give up? Do you die? No, you get online. You find out what the options are. You pull them all together.
The problem was there’s so much crap out there. Isn’t there? Give me a show of hands who’s invested hours and hours and hours online and not made any more money for their time and effort? Easily over half the room.
I spent two years doing that, then someone showed me what worked. I thought, “Wow! That’s really simple!”
So now, everything that I do, everything that I teach is angled towards people where I was three years ago. It’s really simple.
So if it gets too advanced, let me know. I want to make sure that I’m talking to you, no matter what you’re just beginning out or whether you’re at the point where you’re already making $10,000 a month and want to make more.
The simplest of the principles do not change. I call it the business mastery. I use the phrase mastery in all of my training. My primary site, Home Business Mastery. Some of my other training programs, Sales Mastery, Internet Marketing Mastery, all of these things because mastery is that fifth level of coaching and training where not only do you know it, but you know it well enough to explain it to others.
If you’re going to create your own products, which is a great idea, we’ll cover that in a moment, you need to know it better. You know how to teach it to others.
So I guess the first thing, to move on, is ask the question, “What is a profitable website?” What is a profitable website?
I have different business areas within my home-based business, working school hours, four to five hours a day. And I come across “business websites,” that are not profitable. Why? Because they don’t make more money each year than what it costs to run them. And this is at the very simplest format.
A profitable website is a website that generates more income through online-based inquiries – not yellow pages ads, not advertisements in the newspaper, but online-based inquiries – than it costs to run.
